Summit County to study safety at three intersections
Summit County plans to study the safety of three township intersections next year to see whether improvements are needed. The intersections have been identified as some of the most dangerous in the county by the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study. They are:• Flight Memorial and Brookwall roads in Copley Township.• South Main Street and Killian Road in Coventry Township.• Olde Eight and East Highland Road in Northfield Center Township. The county will use federal highway money to pay for the study, which is expected to cost about $30,000. The county will contribute $3,000 toward the effort.“We’re very grateful for the Federal Highway Administration to have a safety study program to help local governments upgrade intersections and make sure they’re safe for all citizens,” said Heidi Swindell, spokeswoman for county Engineer Al Brubaker. The study, including any recommendations for upgrades, should be completed by the middle of next year.A similar study was done last year at Valley View Road and Olde Eight in Northfield Center; Smith Road and Revere Road in Bath; and South Main Street and Axline Road in Coventry. The engineer’s office made upgrades at Valley View/Olde Eight and Smith/Revere, and is still looking at ways to widen South Main as recommended, said Joe Paradise, director of engineering for the county.Rick Armon can be reached at 330-996-3569 or rarmon@thebeaconjournal.com.
